It’s always nice to receive post, particularly when it’s a CD from a band you’re actually interested in. I originally discovered Cycling Season whilst looking through some of the tour dates Sky Larkin were playing. Cycling Season were the local support act for the Exeter leg of the tour, a short but epic train journey from my termtime hometown Plymouth. I always seem to pledge some kind of allegiance to local’ish bands and this was certainly the case with Cycling Season.
Cycling Season sound pretty much how you’d expect a Sky Larkin support act to sound and are a girl/boy trio. At times they come across like a ramshackle Fanfarlo or Darren Hayman, whilst in “Winter Geography Lesson” they remind me a little bit of Favours For Sailours and bands of that ilk, particularly with the commandment of “Let’s lick the wounds of our hearts”. What Cycling Season lack in tightness they make up for with captivating little songs that grow on you before you’ve even realised
