I took my lucky break and I broke it in two

Not through any form of elitism or anything like that but we tend to write about new artists on SBM. However through a lack of inspiration and the need to share; today I’m writing about Karen O. Having not been a massive fan of the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s latest album, it was exciting to discover she’d be soundtracking last years massively anticipated ‘Where The Wild Things Are’.

If I could just diverge for a second. There’s a man called Daniel Johnston and he is the subject of many a disagreement in indie circles (whatever they are). Johnston is a notorious singer/songwriter who through his basement recordings and slightly odd demeanor has gained a cult following. Some critics claim that his songwriting ability is equal of that to The Beatles, not being the most musically acclaimed he’s never really reached those high heights. However when listening to Karen O cover his song ‘Worried Shoes’ it’s clear to see why people make such a fuss.

It’s the kind of song which suddenly makes everything seem just a little bit more beautiful and perfect. Even if it’s pouring down with rain and the bus is late. The perfect combination of Johnston’s poignant lyrics and Karen O’s faultless delivery makes for a song nothing short of flawless.
