I seem to get hundreds of promo emails that I never really pay attention to and then every now and then, there’s a gem and you feel eternally grateful that some plucky manager went to the effort of cc’ing you in.

It was by these means that I received an album by a band named Sir Yes Sir. Who remembers Favours For Sailors? I don’t know about anyone else, but I was pretty angry when they split up. Judging by the sounds SYS are making the disappearance of one of the UK’s better Pavement influenced bands really riled them up too. Their rattling, steady sound is well complimented by vocals with a Mark E. Smith’esque drawl and songs that sometimes verge on resembling The Cribs at their rawest, noisiest and arguably best.

Almost ironically their album is titled ‘Reigning Over Silence’ which could possibly allude to just what a consistent and lovable album it really is. Although Reigning Over Silence isn’t due till May 24th, their 6 track cassette - Not Excited is out now.
